FAQs
Where can I stay?
The University of Auckland is located in the Auckland CBD. There are many hotels and backpacker hostels within walking distance of the University. There are probably AirBnB options in the CBD or inner suburbs on the isthmus. Anywhere located in the North Shore will require crossing the harbour bridge. The University is well served by public transport (buses).
What can I do in Auckland before or after the conference?
If you wish to extend your stay in Auckland, there are many places to visit and things to do, including museums, waterfront walks, and local beaches suitable for swimming. Great day trips include outings to Rangitoto Island, Titiritiri Matangi Island, or Waiheke Island – depending on if you prefer walks in a volcanic landscape, bird watching, or trying local wine and food. Have a look at Auckland i-site or Destination Auckland for more inspiration.
Auckland is well placed for day trips to the west coast, Waitakere Ranges kauri forest, or exploring the Hauraki Gulf. And is a good launch point for longer trips, for example to see the kauri forests of Northland, or the thermal regions of central North Island, should you wish to extend your stay.
I'm working on Southern Hemisphere samples from elsewhere, can I attend the conference?
Our conference is focused on Australia and New Zealand, but is not exclusive. We would welcome presentations or posters on other Southern Hemisphere tree-ring based research.
